President's Commentary

Message from our President, John Majalca

Hello fellow Street Rodders, as we all like to be known as. This crazy weather keeps everybody re-doing their closets between fair weather and winter clothes. I see a few rods and classics out on the road even in the cooler days with the sun shining (?). I finally got my '32 back on the road this past weekend (22 Feb). What a hassle Dan & I went through in trying to find the correct rear axle bearing. After having to ruin a good "wrong bearing" to install the correct one after some late night internet research by Dan. Now the task of checking out the other side to make sure the bearing isn't about to fail like the other one did. So, after all that, beware of the "so pro-claimed" experts. Just found out the Austin Mustang club is having a car show at the Dell Diamond on the 7th of March the cost is $15.00 and it's from 8:30A to 3:00P. Maybe the weather will be nice. If anybody else has roadrunner internet, I surely hope they're not having as much trouble as I've had trying to put these few words together for the newsletter. See you on the road, again!!, John

Till we meet again!
John

Activity Director's Commentary

Message from our Activities Director, Dan Bowen

Last month we were invited to a Sock Hop and Car Show in Liberty Hill. This event was the second time this promoter put this type of event on. We had a few members attend with their rods and a few came with out them. All in all we had a good time and if you would like to see pictures of the event, ask Dan to send them to you. Now that the website is back up and running, we will try to get a few pictures on it. Since we have lost the track to hold our Annual Show N Go, we might want to start thinking of a new plan. We can host a ROD RUN like they use to have years ago. No one really does these anymore so it might be one idea. We could also host a SOCK HOP of our own as another idea. I'm sure that you have idea that we can talk about at the meeting. I would hope that what ever we do it will be closer then the drive to Little River was. One more thing I wanted to bring up. Every year we attend the LSSRA Rod Run in Fredericksburg and we have a great time. On Sunday they give out awards and other Clubs present their Club's Choice. Would you all be in favor of doing the same? We could give out a trophy for a car that the members who attend can select. We can discuss this at the next meeting.

Secretary's Report, "Meeting Minutes and Special Reports"

Message from our Secretary, Mary Morris

The February 2009 meeting was held at Threadgill's on North Lamar. The meeting was called to order by John Majalca. A motion was made and seconded to accept the January meeting minutes as posted in the January newsletter. Dan Bowen reported on the car show and sock hop in Leander and stated that the promoter was planning for another event on April 4, 2009. Dan reported that the show was well attended and that several rodders returned for the music later that evening. Kaye Bowen gave her last Treasurers report and reported that she had received a call from the owner of the drag strip with a counter offer to HCSR proposal for the Show and Go. His proposal was for HCSR to provide all of the help including the gate and he would accept $2,650.00. A discussion was held with Dan Bowen repeating the concern for liability issues and additional concern if HCSR is to provide personnel we would most certainly open the club to potential liability. A discussion was held regarding the possibility of HCSR holding only a car show and receiving the income from car show entries, shirt sales and vendor space fees. After a brief discussion concerning the state of the economy and its potential effect on obtaining sponsors to help defray the cost of producing the shirts a motion was made by John Majalca that the club cancel plans for a 2009 Show and Go. The motion was seconded by Robert Morris and the vote was unanimous. A discussion was opened regarding some other type of activity that might replace the Show and Go and Graham Phare's reported that he would check with the City of Kyle regarding using the park to hold a car show and drive-in movie as a possible event for HCSR. Dan Bowen requested that any members with ideas about possible event ideas for HCSR contact him and he would address them in the club newsletter. Anne Phare's and Kaye Bowen reported that they have been working with Wes to get the website back up and running and hoped to have that completed in the next few weeks. Requests were made for club members to forward pictures of their cars to be posted on the website. Dan Bowen stated that the March meeting location would be mentioned in the newsletter and on the website. Robert Morris made a motion that the meeting be adjourned and was seconded by Dan Bowen and approved with unanimous approval by the membership. Submitted by; Mary Morris
