Message from our President, John Majalca Finally got in touch with Mrs. Sanchez at the Del Valle high school to
get an update on Luis Cabrera's well being. If ya'll will do a memory
rewind, he's the young man that had organized a car show to benefit Safeplace,
a charitable organization. Instead, he was ran over by a vehicle in
the course of putting up flyers in the Riverside Drive area. According
to Ms. Sanchez he's still in the hospital @ Brackenridge, Rm915. He
cannot speak but he can respond some what on a message board. Part
of his skull is missing because the Drs. had to go in and relieve the
pressure. A rehab place wanted $33,000 for the 1st month up front. His
parents do not have any insurance or anywhere close to that amount.
Ms Sanchez speculated that it might take a year or longer for hin to be on
his feet or even speak again. I mentioned to her that we would be
following his recovery and keeping him & his family in our prayers.
So if there's any "heathens" out there, it's time to learn a few prayers.
You never know when you might need'em yourself. Cut-Outs anybody? They sure make a cam come alive. Finally got a set put in my '32. At low speeds they're
kind-of sort-of loud. But at about 60/70 mph they're pretty tolerable.
You can even hear the stereo playing. See you on the street,John Message from our Activities Director, Dan Bowen There have been a few car shows in the month of April, but with the
Easter Holiday we had to cancel out a few of them. But Kay and I
along with many of the Club Members, we stayed on Congress Avenue and
watched all the Street Rods from around the country participate with
the Lone Star Round Up. Thanks to Ralph, he made arrangements for us to have a primed parking
space on So. Congress. It was a great time and everyone had fun.
A short note to let you all know that Bobby Marshall is in the hospital.
Bobby went to work one beautiful day on his Harley. He is a school
crossing guard close to his house. Bobby pulled the Harley out and
went to get off of it by putting the kickstand down. Well the stand
didn't lock in and the motor cycle fell with Bobby on it. He called
out for help and Maria and a passer by helped get it back up right.
Bobby rode it to work and then back home again. After getting it into
the carport Bobby started to walk to the house and fell down calling
out for help again. Maria called EMS and they took Bobby to South Austin
Hospital where he spent a few days. Then Bobby was moved to Brackenridge
for therapy and that is where he still is as of this writing. We all wish Bobby a fast recovery One more note, the young man from Del Valle who was struck by a
vehicle while putting up flyers about his Car Show for his Senior Project,
is still recovering. The Club sent $200 to help with his expenses.
I am heading to Pate and I will be there all week. I needed to get
this out to you before I left.
